Why does my home screen keep coming on every few seconds while my phone is locked?

I got my S8+ on Monday. Just today, my home screen started lighting up every few seconds while the phone was locked. I had changed the Always on Display settings for a more favorable layout, and after I got it set how I wanted it, this started happening. I tried to turn it back off and change everything back how it was before, but it just will not stop flashing the home screen at me every few seconds. This is driving me crazy! I'm used to it lighting up when I have a new text or something, but this is getting obnoxious, lol. Can someone please help me get this thing figured out? Thanks in advance!
