Why does my HTC One M8 recognize the charger but charges real slow?

HTC One m8 recognizes charger but charges real slow.

Hey, my name is Oscar and I've been having this slow charge problem for about a week now.

I use the same charger that came with the phone and I plug it into the wall socket every time I charge. The phone will recognize the charger, when I say that I mean that when you look at the lock screen it says charging and the battery icon in the upper right has that little bolt.

I've used my mom's charger and I still have a slow charge, hers is the charger that comes with the HTC One original (the first HTC One). Works fine for her but should work fine for mine. I actually went down 1% when using hers.

Right now I've been charging my phone for about 20 Mins (with my charger) and I've gone up like 3%. That's not too bad but I left it to charge last night to see if it would charge I went to sleep with the battery at 46% and woke up to.... 46%. I haven't been able to get to 100% for a week now. I charged for 2 hours yesterday in the afternoon and went up maybe 10%?

Any solutions?

Welcome.

If different chargers and USB leads don't do it, the USB port connector may be damaged or dirty, among other possibilities.

Welcome as a new member.

Examine the port for dirt and lint. With any luck, that's all it will be. Otherwise, it's probably best to have it looked at by a repairer.

If cleaning the USB port doesn't work, backup everything. When mine went bad, it was exchanged with warranty roulette. The second one also developed the same issue, but was out of warranty. A local shop tried replacing the port assembly (or at least claimed to), but that didn't work. In both cases the ports got so bad it wouldn't even recognize the charger or even be able to data sync to a computer. So best get things backed up now before it gets to that point.

Yeah just today I had the port blown with some air but it didn't help.
It could be a virus no? So a factory reset could help?

I'd highly doubt it. Viruses are pretty rare and not known to cause this kind of problem. Factory resets don't always solve a problem, but that doesn't seem to stop carriers from using that add their go to solution for most everything.
