Why does my HTC One M9 get so warm while doing basic tasks?

Whenever I play a basic game (Ketchapp quality) or listen to Spotify, my M9 gets noticeably warm. If I leave an app like Twitter or Snapchat open in the multitasking, it gets exceptionally warm. The highest (with the updates) that I've measured it at is 106 degrees... unless that's normal for a higher power phone (I'm upgrading from a 2013 Moto X). I have all the latest updates on Verizon. Hello! The M9 is using the Snapdragon 810 processor, which is known to run warm.
