Why does my phone keep rejecting my wired headphones?

I have an LG k8 and recently it's been acting weird. I have plugged in my headphones and periodically the phone rejects them for a split second, reverting to the phone speaker and back to the headphones, pausing whatever was playing. It doesn't correlate to jostling the phone as it will happen sitting in a table, and the app using it doesn't make a difference either; spotify discord, Google photos, and audible are all affected about the same. All I have to do to resume playback is hit play. Its been doing this for a bit over a week, I have tried rebooting, and it has not helped. The headphones work just fine plugged into any other device

Can you get this to happen by jostling the phone, or touching the headphone jack? I know you say it doesn't matter, but I'm curious if it will happen if you do. It sounds like your jack is dirty. You can try compressed air, some might try a cotton swab but I'd be very careful if you do because they can do damage and they can leave behind their own debris.

Does it also pause when you unplug the headphones? Might be caused by the momentary shorting of the contacts, same as pressing the pause button on a wired headphones with a control pad.

Try taking off the headphones, weighing down the wire do the plug doesn't move, and moving the headphones around. If that causes it, the headphones have an intermittent connection. If not, the jack in the phone is probably intermittent. either live with it or pay to have it replaced. (I'd live with it - it's not a $5 repair.)
