Why does my phone keep turning off on its own?

[Android Central Question]

i find my phone turned off without any warning.. the battery is very much there.. but it simply turns off randomly and i have to power it back on.

this has happened 5-8 times in a span of 5 hours.. and each time it powers off again in a smaller time frame.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? The battery could be starting to fail -- this can cause it to suddenly shut off even with adequate battery charge left.

Does the phone get pretty warm right before it shuts off?

yes at one point it would but went and downgraded the software and it worked fine.

in face a few weeks ago had shifted data so had over 20 gb free in the phone even...

this is a oneplus 3

now the phone refuses to come back on..also when charging there is no % sign even

Moved to OnePlus 3.

Have you already tried different charging cables/plugs and made sure it was plugged into a wall outlet for at least 6 hours straight before trying to power on? If still nothing happens, then it's probably a dead battery or some problem with the motherboard. You'd have to take it to a repair shop, since I'm assuming it's out of warranty.
