Why does my samsung galaxy s4 get hot and shut down

I am able to turn my phone on for about 30 seconds before it restarts itself, but I have noticed that it is getting quite hot. I have left my battery out my phone over night an it is still restarting itself. Also the battery life is going down quite fast. I need to use my phone this week and it is impossible for me to do so as it keeps restarting its self over and over again. What can I do to fix it?
