Tether no longer works after rooting

Hi, my second thread here in Android Central.
I have a at&t Note 3 running KitKat 4.4.2 and the plan I have allows me to tether. Tethering works fine before rooting. After rooting with towelroot app, tethering was very buggy. In fact, it stopped working. I called at&t twice and each time the fix involved taking off the battery and restarting, and each time I would be able to turn on tethering on only once after restart. I don't leave it on all the time because of battery consumption.
I had to use a workaround by downloading another tetheringprovision.apk and using ES file explorer for it to work. Even with these workarounds, tethering is still very buggy. It would often stop working after I turn it off, and restarts are required to make it work. And again, I turn it off to avoid more battery drain.
Does anyone here have a clue as to what may have broken the tethering on my phone?
