Android Central Question

Please im going to LOSE my mind, ive tried installing 6 of these things on my new Oneplus 7 Pro and every. time. the adhesive will not cover the entire screen due to a 'rainbow' effect appearing on part of it. The liquid just goes around it. It may eventually seep in a little bit after waiting nearly an hour but it leaves behind a bunch of ugly little dots. I cant handle imperfections in my phone and need a damn near perfect installation.

The rainbow patch appears before the liquid even reaches that area. But it never completely covers it. Please. what can I do to prevent this. What am I doing wrong. Im about ready to just return this phone and look for something without a curved screen so i dont have to cry every time I try to install as screen protector.

Id post an image but i dont seem to know how as it keeps marking my post as spam.

Moved to Oneplus 7.

You have to clean the screen thoroughly, then use the tape (and more tape if you run out - Magic Tape works) to pick up all the little dust motes - something you can barely see with a magnifying glass will make a large spot under the protector.

If you're talking about a Whitestone Dome protector, though, it can be installed very easily, so well that you almost can't tell that it's there. (you have to look at the edge of the screen very carefully to see it.) It takes time, patience and a dust-free room.

Its not dust. Ive installed film and tempered glass screen protectors before numerous times with absolutely no dust and such under them. I doubt Whatever keeps happening with these protectors is dust related considering its a huge half inch to 1 inch spot and I know what dust normally looks like under tempered glass protectors.

Its not whitestone brand but essentially the same thing. Like I said, the glue/adhesive refuses to spread over the rainbow effect that appears once the glass is set down onto the screen and will not go away, no matter how long I wait or if I cure it.

Perhaps the screen glass is not completely flat? There may be a raised area which, in contact with the glass screen protector, causes interference patterns, and from which the glue is excluded because of the close glass-to-glass contact.

How would I go about preventing this then? I lay it down onto the phone as flat as I can but it always either happens at the top or bottom of the screen.

Oh, the top or the bottom. I thought you meant it was always in one area.
It may be possible to judge the flatness by looking at a reflection of a distant object. Any departure from flatness will cause a distorted image.

I'm afraid I can't suggest a fix, flat glass or not, since I've never used that type of screen protector, but I'll pass this on to other team members.

I don't know what brand you have but I do know that I never have trouble with Whitestone and neither to do a couple of the other volunteers here.

I'd say it's a bad ripoff of Whitestone. The Dome goes on with no problem if you follow the instructions. It's almost impossible to get wrong.
