Why does my weird HTC Desire phone sometimes power itself on?

I have an old HTC Desire phone that is in a good working condition, I keep it switched off most of the time inside a drawer because i use another phone (HTC One S) primarily. Every few weeks when i'm in my room sometimes i hear the startup noise suddenly, then when i check in my drawer i see this phone powering itself on without being invoked... on it's own... and there would be nothing touching it! And after it starts up there would be nothing on the screen, no messages, no notifications, nothing of any sort of activities!

I ignored it the first few times because it sounds crazy and i couldn't be bothered to find out, but today it happened again and it started to freaking me out, what's causing it? what could make it to power on by itself? is it hacked? or is there's something like "Wake Up on LAN" sort of thing on this phone? or is it because i rooted my phone?

I have android 2.2 on it with no installed apps except for "ES File Explorer", "Google Translate" and "superuser", i unlocked debranded and rooted my phone last year (i don't know if the issue started before of after i rooted my phone), i have an expired sim card on it and my phone's software details are:

Baseband version 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel version 2.6.32.15-gf5a401c
Build number 2.29.405.5.CL293415
Software number 2.29.405.5

I still use my HTC Desire occasionally so i don't want to remove the battery, does any one know what's the problem with this phone?

Welcome to Android Central! Moved this thread to the HTC Desire forum (was originally in the Desire Eye forum).

Perhaps the Power button is faulty, and is occasionally activating on its own.
