Vanilla android is so much better then the custom versions LG and Samsung produce. I love the hardware of the G4 and Galaxy 6 over my current Nexus 5 however I refuse to use a OS that is not as good as vanilla. (I've tried LGs version on a family members tablet and I use to have the Galaxy 3).

I feel like they are taking a perfect picture and throwing paint on it. Leave android alone your ruining it Samsung and LG.

Everyone here throws launchers and custom setups onto their vanilla Android phone. Samsung and LG just do the same kind of thing, but from a mass market point of view.

Vanilla android is dull and boring

To each his own. Android is all about choice. And I choose to never use anything but vanilla Android.

I don't consider it boring, but even if it were that's better than annoying, which is what Senseless, Touchwhizz and other UI modifications are to me.

Android user since v1.0. Linux user since 2001.

Nexus is a custom version of Android.

Plus if you want stock. Get a phone you want. And put cyanogen on it.

They don't ruin Android. They just offer different options. You can always get other devices if you want different launchers or vanilla Android. More choices are always better.

Cyanogen is not stock.

One upside to say, a Nexus device is less bloatware. There is no AT&T/Verizon/Tmobile apps, no smart gestures/eye tracking/heart rate sensing that all eat up the size of the overall OS.

But like a few have said before....to each their own.

To me a manufacturer adding their own skin is one thing. It's the carrier bloat ware that gets me. Although I think it should be easier to choose between the manufacturer skin or stock Android (instead of having to root or whatever else you'd have to do to get stock)

I just wish the Nexus wasn't always so expensive. I have the LG G3 and the LG skin is awful. After a Droid X, and this phone, I will never buy a phone that doesn't have vanilla android on it. Even if I have to save up for a year or two.

I didn't know Nexus wasn't stock. What device has stock Android then?

None, technically do.... but a Nexus device will be the closest you'll get. It is, for all intents and purposes, stock in the sense that it looks and feels identically... the dialogs, windows, notification shade, settings UI, etc... then they'll add in the Google Apps and some Nexus specific features (Ambient Display, for instance).

But they don't go in and pile on bunch of UI alterations.. Most of the the time, when someone refers to 'stock' Android, they are referring to the same UI and look and feel of a Nexus phone.
