Why does the notification feature not work on the Motorola phones when you switch texting programs?

I spoke in length with a rep about this that was higher up and he just said that when you switch messenger apps on Motorola phones, it damages the software that not even a hard reset (manual reset) can fix. Unfortunately, you're stuck with the default messenger application on the device in order for notifications of any messaging or texting app to work properly. Hence why Samsung and Apple control the marketplace (in his words). So, you got about a 90 day manufacturer warranty where you can switch phones twice. Outside of that, it's $8.99 p mo for AT&T's insurance plan that'll cover you for 2 switches in a year which for my Motorola z2 Force isn't worth it since Motorola just came out with a plethora of new phones and now this one is a lot cheaper (the mods too) from trusted sellers on eBay.

On both my current first gen Moto Z Force and my previous third gen Moto X switching between Android Messages and Verizon Messages+ causes no issues with notifications. Could you elaborate more on the problems you are having?

I'm not sure what you mean. I've been using Textra on different Moto devices with no problems at all.

There are some problems when you change the message app on Moto devices, but, as far as I know, only if you disable or uninstall (after root) the stock app. If you only switch the default app you shouldn't experience any problem.

Makes sense. I disabled the stock app when I switched and when that app didn't work for notifications and affected my whole phone, I went back to the stock app and re-enabled it. So, that would be the only problem is disabling the stock app? Is there a way to fix this beyond cashing in on my warranty? I thought in order to switch messenger apps you had to first disable any other apps that exist in the same context.

Sounds like it. You don't really need to disable the stock app, just change default in settings - apps - gear icon top right - SMS app.

If you are still having issues after enabling the app back try a couple of things. First make sure everything is updated on the Play Store, disabling an app usually uninstalls recent updates. After this, wipe the cache partition from the recovery menu and see if it helps.

It’s too bad you didn’t talk to a rep who knew what he or she was talking about. I haven’t read such nonsense in a long time. ESPECIALLY the part about the hard reset.
