why does the red led come on when I plug in my phone even though it'd hard bricked

I have a Verizon gs3. I was trying to unlock the bootloader when I bricked it. I plugged it in and the led showed. What's happening

Welcome to Android Central! You bricked the software--it doesn't mean that the charging circuits were damaged.
