why does the screen time out the second I pick up

the only annoying thing about the maxx is that the phone screen times out the second I pick up the phone when a call comes in, I have to press the power/screen on button several times before I can put it into speaker mode. I had the thunderbolt and the phone stayed on a few seconds to allow for the user to put the speaker on during a call instead of this ridiculous method, it is horrible when in the car and the phone is not on a Bluetooth.

Make sure your hand isn't covering the proximity sensor, which is at the top left of the phone.

Also, if you have a screen protector, it might interfere. And make sure the glass over the sensor is clean.

Does the protector cover the sensor? If so, take it off and see how it works.
