Browser problem - Chrome doesn't open webpages, Opera closes

Hello there!
A friend of mine has encountered a nasty bug on his phone.
I've searched all over the internet for a solution but have found none.
He has a Samsung Galaxy ACE 3 with Android 4.2.2 .
Any help is highly appreciated, we both do not have much experience with Android. Having to reset the phone is not something we would like, re-installing all the apps and configuring everything would take a lot of time and energy.
I will try to describe the problem as best as I can.

>When using the search widget, we get the normal google results page, but when clicking something it 'resets' and goes back to a blanco page without search results.
>Opening Chrome itself gives us a blank page, and beside not being able to type something, opening the settings doesn't work either. We already emptied the cache. I would try to turn of flash/java but since I can't access the settings it's an effort in vain.
>We downloaded Opera to see if the problem is Chrome isolated. Opera allows us to access it options, and to open a webpage. However, it almost immidiately closes when opening a website.

>The installation of an extra browser brought forward some changes. When we search via the widget, getting to the google results page and clicking something, we're getting to opportunity to pick the browser with which we want to open the link.
Chrome doesn't open anything. Opera loads the page, but when trying to open anything else it closes again. We also get to chose 'Internet (w n w)'. This seems to work.

How do we fix this?
Thanks in advance!

Your stock browser is "controlling" your phone!

Solution: Root your device! And flash a new ROM or freeze stock browser app!
