Why doesn't my alarm clock sound on silent mode after system update from Kies on S5?

Alarm clock doesn't sound on silent mode after system update from Kies on S5

kies advised that a system update was available for my S5 so I updated. Since then, my alarm doesn't sound in silent mode and system doesn't allow me to change sounds of silent mode.

I've tried 3rd party alarm as well, but didn't make a difference.

Any idea how to fix this?

There are, currently, 40 different Samsung Galaxy S5 models worldwide with over 300+ different Lollipop firmwares.

Could you post your model number and which, "Version", of Lollipop you are on, as per #1.2 and #1.8 of 40 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide

I think it's because you're using the original "mute" option instead of the new "Priority Notifications" option, which came with Lollipop upgrade (I had the same confusion).
So now, if you put your volume as "mute", NOTHING will ring or vibrate.
If you enable "Priority notifications", it lets you customize what you want to ring, when, and much more.
For example, I can leave my phone on sound, but I customized my priority notifications so that when I'm, for example, sleeping, only the alarm can ring and only certain contacts will ring if they message/call me.
