Why doesn't my handcent customize fonts option apply after saving the settings?

In handcent, the text messaging app I installed on my galaxy s5, have used successfully for a few years now, but suddenly won't take to the font settings I chose including the font size. It used to work just fine. Handcent app -> settings -> custom style -> conversation settings -> contact font... It's here that im having a problem. I have a lot of font options, but when I apply it along w changing the size of i want, it doesn't change anything when I back out after saving changes. Any ideas??
