Why doesn't my LG G5 GPS work?

I've had this phone for over a year now and had been using its GPS function mostly for a golf program, which worked fine at times but seemed to freeze up at other times.

Finally, on a recent trip on which my wife and I were simultaneously using the GPS for WAZE on our android phones. Her phone would very quickly lock onto GPS but mine would seem to be seeking GPS forever, then suddenly connect but only to lose the signal a few minutes later, regain connection, and lose it again & again.

So, I went to my location setting and confirmed my phone was set for "High Accuracy (GPS and networks)." Then, I experimented by shifting it to "Device sensors only (GPS only)." With that setting selected and proceeding to Waze, my screen simply gave me a message of "No GPS. Showing approximate location." No matter how long I waited, my phone never was able to get a GPS connection.

My conclusion is the my phone's GPS sensors simply do not work and that the only way I get partial GPS functioning is from what my phone picks up from "other networks."

Have others experienced this same problem? Is there a fix other than replacing the phone?

The "GPS sensor" is a GPS receiver. The only fix (unless yo can find a very talented repairman, is to replace the motherboard. It might pay, since it would cost about $250 to replace the phone.
