Why doesn't my phone work in the network

Sometimes my phone works and sometimes it hasn't the network is poor the phone says connected but it's not working I cannot do anything on my phone

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone, and which carrier? Did you get the phone directly from your carrier, or did you get it somewhere else and bring it to your carrier?
