Why don't certain functions on my phone not work anymore?

I have a moto g 2nd gen. Recently my phone randomly turned itself off while I was online and when it turned back on, it didn't go threw the whole loading screen. After that my phone wouldn't lock, I can't pull down the top thing to get to my phones wifi, flashlight and other stuff, my phone doesn't show any notifications and the home button doesn't work. I've gotten really frustrated with this because I can't log into my schools WiFi anymore. I don't know what happened or why. I'm wanting to know if there's anything I can do to fix this problem or is the only solution to get a new phone

Try first a Cache Partition wipe. Tell us what that does.

Okay. Thank you for joining and welcome. :)

Before we go any further, has the device been dropped or subjected to anything which may have caused damage?
Also, are you using an SD card? They can sometimes cause trouble.
Also, so far as you can judge, does the battery seem healthy?

Hello Bethany, welcome to the forums. Have you already updated your phone to Marshmallow? Try something. Go to settings - users - switch to 'guest' and try to open the quick settings. After this repeat the same process and switch back to owner. Any changes in your notifications/quick settings shade?

I haven't dropped my phone to where its been damaged, it's only dropped onto soft things like a bed and sofa. I do use an SD card. I'm not sure about my battery though because I can't get to it

That fixed my problem. Thank you for your help

Glad you managed to get it fixed. What exactly did the trick? Switching users, taking the SD card out or something else? Your feedback is very important for future reference.
