No option to add words to personal dictionary on galaxy s6

Hi. I can't find an option to add words to my personal dictionary. When I tap an underlined word, it just shows more word options. I've even gone to language and input in the settings tab; the option isn't available there either. Please help. Thanks.

Not sure what you are asking. SwiftKey learns your typing style as well as your use of non-standard spelling and acronyms.

Maybe your carrier removed it. In my settings, I go to Language and input and there is a "Personal Dictionary" listed there that I can edit.

Did Verizon remove this? Stupid Verizon!

Personal dictionary on Galaxy FOUND!

>> Personal Dictionary on Galaxy <<

I had the same question a couple of months ago and came up blank when I looked then on several different forums including this one.

So, I assumed that there was no personal dictionary option on the Galaxy.

However, today, I typed one of the shortcuts that I had set up on a previous Android device and was surprised to see that the shortcut was there in the word suggestions.

So, assuming that when I set the tablet up the personal dictionary was imported with other things from the same account, it meant that it was there... somewhere.

So... went looking... and finally found it. It's there, but the settings setup for personal dictionary is seriously broke and well hidden... here are the steps... I'm using Google keyboard.

  • Settings
  • Controls
  • Language and Input
  • Google Keyboard Setup Icon
  • Text Correction
  • Personal Dictionary
  • Tap "English" (or your default language)
  • Tap +Add
  • Enter Word/Phrase
  • Enter Shortcut
  • (There is no "SAVE" option... only DELETE)
  • Tap the "Check" on the keyboard
  • Tap Back

Hope that this information is helpful for someone.

I tried to follow the above steps, but couldn't get any further than Language & Input, as apparently I don't have the Google Keyboard.
The keyboard available (also the default) is just the Samsung Keyboard, and there are no other options to choose from. I remember my S3 had the option to switch from Samsung or Google. How do I work around this?

>> apparently I don't have the Google Keyboard <<

Download and install google keyboard from the play store.

Once installed, you will need to "activate" the keyboard, and, after that, google keyboard will be an option in both the settings/language section and will be a selection option when any keyboard is in use.

You can use the samsung keyboard.

Settings
Controls
Language and Input
Samsung Keyboard
Text Shortcuts
Add

type the word as the shortcut and the expanded phrase, then click add.

>> Text Shortcuts <<

Thanks... nice to know that the option exists on some Samsung devices, but that option is not there on our Samsung Galaxy tablet.

This only allows you to enter one word at a time. This is a painful way to train a dictionary. How do I add a few thousand words (ie a medical dictionary)?

Try "Spellex Medical Spell Checker".
It's about $11.
Links your google keyboard to 50,000 medical terms which will be used in autocorrection/spell checks.

THANKS A MILL!!

Does anyone know how to make the front LED notification light up on receiving calls, texts, and so on?.... FRONT LED
On Samsung Galaxy J5?

Yes finally with the help of you I did manage to download google keyboard d google handwriting and now under Settings>Language Input there is the option of "Personal Dictionary" which previously was not in Samsung's default settings. Love my samsung now. Thanks

I just did the same thing and here is what worked for me. Go to Settings-Language & Input (Under System). Tap Samsung Keyboard (multiple languages). scroll to bottom to Customizations, then Text Shortcuts. You can add & delete yr shortcuts as you wish. (Actually I just saw the answer right above-much shorter & sweeter) Same result.

Re: Personal dictionary on Galaxy FOUND!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! Almost a year ago I mistakenly deleted the word "the".. can you believe it??
What a pain! Your instructions allowed me to add the word back... I had to switch to the Google keyboard from what I had been using... but I like the suggested word list better... though the keyboard itself will take getting used to.
Thanks again!

I am using Samsung keyboard and have remember words set. It was working but quit when I installed cleansweep. I Uninstalled cleansweep but it is still not remembering words.

This is about to sound really simple but normally if I type a word and my phone tries to correct it.. I put a little *asterisk* next to it and delete the asterisk then it adds the word automatically
