Why don't my apps stay open and why has my phone gotten so slow?

my apps wont stay open and my phone is geting slow the phone is a htc1 m8

How do I clean out my phone?
well keeping everything as in pics, number, videos and such

Just learned that if your M8 is suffering from lots of forced app closures, it might be due to the latest Android System WebView update causing problems: Verizon’s HTC One (M8) bug crashing apps left and right | TalkAndroid.com.
