Why dosnt it show if S3 is locked when punching in *#7465625#

I bought a S3 that was used on U.S Cellular.I am from Manitoba Canada and when i punched in *#7465625# to check if it was locked i pressed the call putton and our phone company that i want to hook it up to..MTS..message service came on.I dont have a SIM card yet in the phone.So I am wondering why the screen shot dosnt pop up that shows if the phone is locked.

I guess the phone was bought from carrier as a contract phone and sold to you.
there should be a way to unlock it.

yeah, most small phone stores in scotland charge at most ?20 to unlock the s3 (about $30?)
the carrier will charge more

Are you sure that's the correct 'secret code'? When I try that on my Verizon SGSIII it acts like it's making a call and then I get a recording saying that it's unable to make the call.
