Why has 20GB of internal storage disappeared from my Galaxy S7?

[Android Central Question]

I have a 32GB Samsung Galaxy S7, and I noticed in Device Maintenance that nearly 20GB of storage space is completely unaccounted for. Apps, pictures, videos, etc, are using ~10GB of storage, but 20GB is just completely gone. Done the usual steps, clearing cache partition, clearing app cache, using Device Maintenance to clear space, and even deleted apps entirely. 20GB of storage are just completely missing.

Any idea why or how I can get a lot of this storage back?

System can take between 8 to 15 gb

It might also be helpful to install DiskUsage to get a better idea of what's taking up your storage.
