Why has AOD and gesture wakeup stopped working?

[Android Central Question]

My s3 Frontier has been working really well for the last couple of years. It's a great watch. But in the last week AOD has stopped working, and I have realised that the gesture wake up isn't working either. I do t use AOD all the time to try and conserve battery power, but it's often a useful feature. Heart monitor and steps working ok, so it's not a sensor shutdown. I have the latest s/w updates. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Have you tried cycling the switch off and on for gesture wake?

What troubleshooting steps have you tried?
