why has my moto x 2nd gen earpiece stopped working?

after recent lollipop update on 7/28/15, my earpiece stopped working. visited At&t service center and they claim this is happening with a multitude of moto x's. They wont replace my handset due to the fact that they say a patch will be out to fix this issue. motorola will not acknowledge the problem however they will replace my phone if I mail it in, HUGE inconvenience. Also I learned that At&t is notoriously slow at rolling out these patches to their customers. Is android/google acknowledging this issue? and how long till it is resolved? thanx

AT&T is notorious for being slow with updates, but they're pretty good with patches. They have to wait for Motorola (Lenovo) to figure out the problem and write the patch, though.) If they say there's a patch coming out to fix the problem, that IS an acknowledgement of the issue. How long? Software doesn't get debugged by a schedule. As long as it takes to find out what the problem is, plus a few days to write a patch and make sure it doesn't cause any problems. Depending on how deeply buried the bug is, it could already be done at Motorola's end or it could take months. (We had a single typo in a database that took 6 months to find. All we know was that it crashed - seemingly randomly.)
