I just did a new update and it didn't happen before that. So was it my update? Are they actually bad for your phone? Do they shortness the life of my phone?

Updates do not shortness the life of phones; they are in general good things with occasional unwanted effects and bugs.
The playing of the music may be caused by some app or other. Try Safe Mode to test that. Tell us if no go.

Welcome to Android Central! It sure would help to know which phone you have. Also what app seems to be playing music -- is it YouTube Music, Spotify, Pandora, or something else?
It's quite a leap in logic to suggest that this is somehow done on purpose. Glitches happen, and they often happen after an update (either of an app or of the system). There are ways to troubleshoot them, so register on this forum to continue the discussion.
