Why has Xiaomi removed the option to disable "Connect to open network"

I have a Xiaomi Mi 8 lite, and it appears that xiaomi have hidden the wifi option "Connect to open network"
i'm running Android 10 with MIUI 12.0.3
i recently had my phone automatically connect to an unknown network, and I want to turn that off for security reasons.
When I search in settings for "Connect to open network" it shows a link to that function, but when i click the link it takes me to the "Additional Settings" menu, and there is no option there to disable the connection to open networks. Why would xiaomi remove that feature?

Welcome to Android Central! Does it connect automatically to any open network, or only that one? Did you try selecting that network in your wi-fi settings and seeing if you can Forget it?

How to stop Xiaomi connecting to unsecured networks

I have a xiaomi mi 8. It does not have the option to stop connection to unsecured wifi networks.
From my perspective this is a security issue.
Is there any hack for this with the xiaomi mui?
Thanks

Hi, I merged your threads -- did you see that I had responded to your first post?

Are you saying that the phone is automatically connecting to any open network, or are you looking for an option to prevent the user from selecting an unsecured network?

Hi B. Diddy
Thanks for your response.

No I hadn't seen your original response. For some reason I don't get any message when someone replies to my thread, and i could not find the original thread when i searched on the forum. I bookmarked this thread so i can find it again.

The issue I have is that I have wifi turned on all the time.
I go to a shopping centre and find that my phone has connected to some random unsecured wifi network, which is a security risk. I want it to only connect to networks I choose to connect to.

Thanks

Go to Settings>Wi-fi>Advanced Settings. Is there an option there to turn off automatic connection to open networks?

Hi, welcome to AC!

Can you go to wifi then advanced to see what's on the list ?

If you Forget that public wi-fi network, does it automatically connect again? I wonder if you had connected to it in the past, thereby making the phone want to connect to it again automaticaclly.

Nothing like this page ?View attachment 332770

No there is nothing like that. It appears that xiaomi has removed some of the standard settings.
FYI, xiaomi has rearranged a lot of the settings menus. I often find when I google a setting, then search for it on the Mi8 it is in a different location.

If I search in settings for "Connect to open networks" it takes me to the screen I shared above.

I have never connected to that network before.
I pretty much never connect to public wifi, and am 100% sure I have never connected to the network in question.

Long press of the wifi toggle takes me to the wifi setting screen as follows.

From there the only options I have are the screen above, or the following wifi assistant.

It's Android 10 (as per my 1st post), so I think the option should be there, but maybe Xiaomi has removed it in their UI.

thanks Mustang7757
I followed the Video - And then checked my model number as the menus were different to that video. My phone is actually a mi8 lite, whiuch has slightly different menus to the mi 8.
Anyhow I found that network reset - even the name of the reset option is different to the mi 8 and did the reset.
The option to turn off connection to unknown networks is still not there. As yet i haven't been near the unsecured network to see what happens.
Cheers
