Question Why high downloads app but no reviews?

1. Is it safe to use apps that has high downloads but 0 reviews?
2. Why these apps below have over 100K downloads but 0 reviews? Are they fake downloads numbers or reviews disabled or other reason?
3. In playstore I see other apps by other developers that are 0 reviews too, are they safe to download to use?
4. Is it safe to use the apps below?

I'm not sure what you are looking at, but I'm seeing a lot of reviews in the Play listing for every one of those apps.

Not really answering your question, but no, you are not crazy, acsurfer. I can't see the reviews either when using the Google Play Store app, version 42.3.24-31 on my Android 14 Pixel 8 Pro. I can, however, see the reviews Mooncatt references using Windows on my computer.

Mooncatt, were you also using a computer when you saw the reviews?

I just checked the first link, and there are a bunch of reviews I can see. Star average is 3.9. Using the Play Store app on my S24+ with Android 14.

Interesting. I thought it was worldwide reviews (though maybe filtered by language). But to answer the earlier question, I was viewing the links in the Play Store app.

That depends on what you mean by "safe." Apps are vetted by the Google Play Store and it would be a reasonable assumption that if the app developer says that they "don't share data" or "don't collect data" or that "data is encrypted in transit" that that is the case. That being said, apps have been caught cheating, harvesting data, spreading malware and pushing click fraud in the past, so there is no guarantee, particularly with lesser-known apps (well-known apps are less likely to risk their reputations and bottom line with shady dealings). To lower your risk, it is better to use Google Play Store apps with many downloads and positive reviews and never download apps from unknown sources.

Another risk with apps is functionality and how they might impact your phone. There are plenty of badly coded apps, even in the Google Play Store, that could use excessive data, impact performance, subject users to glitches, etc. So, once again, it is best to select well-known, reputable apps with many downloads and positive reviews.

We need to give app developers creating new apps a chance to prove themselves, but, in my opinion, it is better to let the more experienced users be the beta testers for newer, unproven apps.

Usually when you see high download with no reviews it's an attempt by botted downloads to artificially bump it in the search results.

No reviews and high download is a huge red flag for me.

I would like to add that 100K is not a lot of downloads. Not to spook you or anything, but you're asking like it matters to you. This is just my personal opinion and feelings, but I prefer apps with downloads in the millions. Unless it's your local Credit Union or family business 100K is all of their friends and family. I kid but it's easy to farm thousands of downloads. When you start getting up over 500K it starts looking better to me.

I always recommend looking at a bunch of the 1 and 2 star reviews and not so many of the 3, 4 and 5 star. While you will find a lot of people mad that they don't know how to use the app, or that the app doesn't work the best on their device, in the low rated reviews you will also find a lot of the truth about how many ads there are, how often they are pushing ads to users, how easy or difficult it is to... fill in the blank, and how often they are updating the app. I definitely read 8 times more bad reviews than good ones but hey I think you understand what I'm trying to say.

If it's from the play store it should be pretty safe now if there any good that's a different story and you would have to try it out if they are free to download.
