Why I am Switching to the S4

display for one thing. the difference is not gazillions more like 100.00.... while the S4 may suffer from lag using something like Nova could only benefit that...

Yeah, I agree with the display and the lag part. I was being facetious about the gazillions! :)

Well you define latest and greatest solely on the launcher... Others don't.

My point was that why spend the money on something just to change it. But freddyttt said it best and made me see the light!!! I didn't even think of the screen....my bad!

My friend has an S4 and when he put the brightness to auto it's just slightly better on the One,though still viewable on S4 (same level as One X).
For the purple tint I am giving till the October for HTC to fix it via software or I give it as gift to my gf

HTC promised us 4.3 by end of September. Maybe that will fix your issue. I don't use my camera much but I do use it and I haven't seen this "purple tint" issue.....yet.

It does, but it defeats the purpose of getting the S4. Using a different launcher disables most, not all, but most of the tweaks that touchwiz touts. If anyone is buying a phone just to change launchers, then why buy the latest and greatest?? Why not buy a much cheaper phone (saving gazillions) and put a launcher on that? Nova ran just as good on my S3 as on my S4...no difference.

What does running Nova disable? I have Nova running on my S4, and all the features I care about (Smart Stay, S Voice, quick toggles in notification, etc) still seem to work. Seriously, I installed Nova the first day I got the phone so I'm not sure what I'm missing.

I understand.

The HTC One is a truly amazing phone but it won't impress everyone. Same goes for the GS4.

This is coming from the owner of a HTC One.

I've had Samsung fail on me with 3 different devices: phone, DVD player, and a $2000 TV. I won't go back to them. I'm not saying I fault your decision. But I can pretty much guarantee you that what happened to you with your HTC phones and your iphones also happened to some other guy with his S4. And then another with his Nokia. Etc etc. It's just the nature of the electronics lottery.

The camera is very good but just lacks that extra detail and for some odd reason it struggles with lighted out door photos and makes the subject dark, but in dim lighted situations it is fine. Kind of annoying since most people take photos in the day/sunlight. I went on vacation with the One and was in Bahamas and all our faces had dark shadows on them. I know you can mix with the ISO speed but when taken a photo I don't have time to toggle back in forth.
I know I'm an old guy and these days it's all about using your camera as a phone wherever you go, but really?? You're on vacation and you want to use a camera phone for the pics? The lens is a big part of the picture quality and you're still going to get a way better lens with an inexpensive point-and-shoot camera. Is the problem that you don't want to carry two devices around? If that's the case, the next question would be - why do you need your phone at hand in the Bahamas? Can't it be in your backpack or in the car?

Just don't get this as an objection to the One (or any other phone. If you want good pictures, get a camera).

Same here. Don't get me wrong, I like Samsung products but here's my experience:

Samsung Chronos Series 7 laptop : Trackpad failed....twice....sent in for repair and was still under warranty.

Samsung Dishwasher : Control panel stopped working and was under warranty. After repair (and now not in warranty) the plastic ring holding panel on broke off.

E5900 DVD player : Stopped working.

55 inch smart tv : had massive light bleeding in corners but under warranty. Got fixed. Now that it's not under warranty, tv decides to shut off when it feels like it.

I understand anything can go wrong at anytime when it deals with electronics but it seems everything Samsung (except the S2, S3, and S4) I own has had problems. It gets on my nerves.

What "tweaks" are lost if one switches from Touchwiz to a 3rd party launcher? Provide a little list please.

In the first sentence you talk about 3rd party launchers defeating the purpose of owning an S4, then in the last sentence you claim that the 3rd party launcher Nova worked fine not only on your S4, but on your S3 as well. In your case it was ok to use a 3rd party launcher and defeat the purpose of having your S3 and 4? Help me out.

Yeah, I used Nova launcher on my S3 and S4. I bought it when I had the Motorola Photon so I decided to try it on my S3 and it blazed, but I preferred touchwiz. Then When I got the S4, for giggles, I installed Nova. After using it, again I decided I liked touchwiz better. To let you know, I also tried apex and a few others. Nova ran just as good on S3 hardware as it did on S4 hardware even though the S4 beats the S3 in specs.

I haven't tried or used Nova since I gave my S4 to my daughter but when (for the hour) I used it, you lost the sidebar, multi window, and a few other functions I found useful. BUT, I haven't used it since, they may have updated Nova so it all works now so honestly I can't say that you lose "all tweaks". That would be wrong and a bad assumption....

I found myself "ALWAYS" going back to stock....except on the Photon cause I couldn't stand motoblur....and decided that changing launchers to find the "best" one just gave me a headache. Like right now, If I change launchers on my ONE I'll lose blinkfeed. Sure there are things I can do to get it back but why go through the hassel when sense 5 works and runs great? So running a 3rd party launcher defeats the purpose in my opinion.

Of course, the OP is free to get any phone he chooses, and the S4 is a great phone too, but aren't you just swapping one set of things you don't like for another? And regarding the outdoor photos, I'm wondering whether you focused on the photos object before taking the picture?

Perhaps TW with 4.3 will be much faster than 4.2 on S4,perhaps HTC will fix the camera purple tint in a FW update, the coming 2-3 weeks are very interesting indeed!
