Why I personally think the G5 Failed (And Won)

For starters, I think that it is great that LG did something different, but it also really ticks me off that they did it to the G line. What the G5 is, is what the V10 should of been. Flagship lines shouldn't take a 360 where you can not even recognize the line. While I'm happy there was innovation I think it was the wrong phone.
Also, awhile ago I posted about all the things that the G5 needed to be good and personally nothing any of us asked for where checked off besides a metal unibody that maintained the SD card and battery. But we got a smaller battery and a smaller phone (which is a plus for people) but what else did we get? Even worse software that took something that was getting better and just tore it down. Again, I feel that this phone is not what the G5 should of been. The G5 should of had improved specs and an improved OS and a amazing design and camera and they should of done what Samsung did and just took a great phone and built off of the base. DONT GET ME WRONG THO when I say that this phone has so so so much potential and can be the front runner in the change of the smart phone. But I personally did not want this to happen to my beloved G line.
Also another thing I would like to point out is that the phone is missing the color option of black. And I have never owned a smart phone that was not black or Grey. I know it's a personal opinion but personally I feel like the color options are more girly than they should be.

But what do you guys think LG did wrong or right or both?

One thing to note: the G5 has a smaller screen and a smaller battery, but it's not a smaller phone. If you check the dimensions, it's nearly the same exact size as the G4. And that really turns me off. I'm almost okay with it being a smaller screen, but keeping the phone the same size really irks me.

What did they do wrong. Couple of things.

1. waiting until nearly a month after Samsung released their flagship and not even releasing an availability date until the last minute. This was profoundly stupid.

2. No wireless charging. That is the future, not usb3.

3. Smaller battery (removable or not)

4. This ridiculous friends nonsense. Nobody wants to pay another 100.00 to get accessories that should have been, and could have been easily incorporated into the phone. It's a gimmick that was doomed to fail.

5. Same size phone with a smaller screen. Yup that makes sense.

I've had every lg g phone and switched to samsung this time. LG is going to end up being a bit player in this market if they don't wise up.

Wireless charging may be the future but not in its present state. My prior phone had wireless charging and I liked it but it's not a deal breaker especially if a phone supports fast charging.....and btw USB C is the future.

Throwing in the friends accessories would have been huge, to bad LG didn't employ that sales strategy.

Worse software? It is much better than it ever was before.

Another comical subject about this post, you are posting from a G4 and giving off "wisdom" about a G5? So you don't own one correct? How can you possibly give feedback? Based on what you have read, I sure hope not.......

Smaller battery......everyone has complained about a replaceable battery for YEARS. You get it and then you complain about the size. Size does not matter when you can swap another in within 10 seconds.

Modules - People complain about not having options for EVERYTHING. What did LG do? Gave you options. What did you do? Complain some more...... The phone is just fine without the "friends". They are simply options, no one is forcing you.

Smaller screen - For Christ sake....all we saw when the V10 came out was people complaining that it was too big and no one needed a 6 inch screen. Now you complain about a 5.3 inch screen. Unreal.

Oh one more thing, colors - for years people complained that all phones were black or silver (aluminum). You give them white and gold and they STILL complain. You people need some Midol for your PMS.

On the dimension comment, the G5 is longer, but more narrow. That's important because it means I can one-hand type much more efficiently than on my G4.

And on the battery size issue, it matters not. Battery life is what's important (how long it lasts on regular daily use), and with the smaller screen and the more efficient processor, I'm getting much better battery life than I was with my G4.

How do I comment on how the G5 failed, when the G5 didn't fail me...

In the multitude of phones I've owned, from a StarTac through an S6E+ over the years the G5 is meeting my expectations.

Being the first LG phone I've owned I will seriously consider them for a future purchase based on my satisfaction with the G5.

You're kidding, right? How is faster data transfer speeds via USB 3.0 not the future? And until wireless charging can charge your phone if it's in the same room and not set on a charging pad, Quick Charge is infinitely more useful.

"Oh no, I'm so lazy that I just want to plop my phone on a pad instead of taking half a second to plug in a reversible USB C cable!"

i actually think the charging cable is awesome.. you dont have to wonder if you're plugging your phone into it correctly... none of that flipping the cable cause its upside down.. no matter what it just fits. never had a cable that did that

Truly a helpful topic.

Now, hope that other manufacturers will charge these haters with their fabulous smartphones (outdated as you leave the store/open the box), with over a thousand £/$/€, so they can feel proud of what they're using.

Some people really forgot these days how to enjoy the little things.

I had wireless charging in my previous phone, used it once, saw how ridiculously slow it was to charge, and haven't used it since. It could be useful in certain circumstances, but I cant help thinking at the moment its a solution in search of a problem. With USB-C its so easy to plug in, and you can literally charge a G5 for 10-15 minutes and have half your battery capacity back. To me, that is FAR more important than using a wire, and I don't miss it one bit.

Now if restaurants, cafes, bars etc. started fitting hidden wireless charging pads in their tables, THEN it would be awesome to have. At the moment it seems to be just a way of saving you a couple of seconds, and charging at a fraction of the speed (and using more electricity I believe).

I had wireless charging on my Motorola and it charged at a normal rate, but I don't miss it. I prefer fast charging.

As I see it the failure of any device is not giving the end user a choice. If you can have Qi charging, USB-C, charge cradle and swappable batteries... and then make the choice for yourself that's the only winning design for the end user. Anything other than user choice is compromise, since nothing is perfect and there are pros and cons to everything (if you look deep enough).

As far as how the G5 goes about its power management IMHO there are way more W's than L's. (thats a sports analogy, Wins versus Losses).

Everyone has difference view points and he was just sharing his. No reason to mock him for it, right?

I personally am a fan of wireless charging. Is it a "need" in my book? Nah not right now but I do enjoy it. I come home and my phone sits in the same spot (my PC desk) so having a pad there and me just plopping it down to charge / sit there -- it is convenient.

I know. People are entitled to their opinions. But I'm more harping on how he said that "usb 3.0 is not the future." I don't know if he meant USB 3.0 or USB-C, but either way he is absolutely wrong about that.
