Why is autocorrect changing correctly spelled words?

I'm using Samsung's default keyboard and, like so many others, am having issues with autocorrect/autosuggest. It's changing correctly spelled words to other words for no apparent reason (and not when I use ! or ? as others have posted about).

For example, "shows" becomes "shoes" and "Christmas" becomes "Chris". At first I thought I had spelled it wrong so it chose the closest guess for me but nope. I've watched it change the correctly spelled words to another when I hit space.

Why!? I've switched to Google's keyboard but don't like it as much. Is there anything I can do?

I think tapping space bár may be your issue. I haven't used Samsung keyboard for ages, but from memory, you go into keyboard settings and that function is selectable there.. Have a peek around there and set it up to your preferences.
Keyboards today, in general are stupid and not intuitive, nor do they seem to learn. Old dumb phones were much better at predicting text, even entire paragraphs in my experience!

Yeah, something about it has changed. i could swear that you used to have to tap the predicted word if that's what you meant to type. Now, you have to select the word you typed, or it will put its (frequently) bad prediction in. In other words, it used to do word "suggestions" but not auto-insert them, now it forces its suggestions on you.
Another case of an "upgrade" screwing things up. I've disabled it.
