Why is Google not working when swiping up on HTC One M8

When you swipe up from the bottom of the screen a Google icon appears but does not open. It used to work and would open Google so that you could say "Ok Google". Now for some reason it is not working. Anyone know how to enable this to work again?

Welcome to Android Central! What happens when you swipe up to the Google logo? Does the logo just disappear and you're back on the homescreen?

Make sure Google Now is turned on. Open the App Drawer, go to Google Settings>Search & Now>Now Cards, and make sure the Google Now switch is turned on.
