Android Central Question

Ever since the newest update, it is very difficult to hear the other person when on a call. The other person can hear me clearly but they sound like they're very far away. I have made sure the volume is all the way up but it doesn't make a difference. I was wondering if this is a defect from the update, and if it is, will a new update be available soon to fix this issue.

Welcome to Android Central! It's important to know which device you have -- something like this is not a general Pie issue, but instead is more likely to be a device-specific issue with its specific Pie update.

Can you hear the other person fine in speakerphone, or using a wired or Bluetooth headset?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8. I can hear them fine in speakerphone and a headset. It's only when I actually have the phone up to my ear that it's very quiet.

Does it also happen in Safe Mode? If it doesn't, that would suggest that some 3rd party app is causing the problem (which can happen sometimes after a system update if the update introduced some kind of incompatibility with the app that hasn't been addressed by the developer yet). https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-36242

Yes, it still happens in safe mode. It also is very quiet when I make a call on Facebook messenger, so maybe something is wrong with the earpiece speaker

It's a well published fact that many many many people are having volume issues on various phone types after the pie update.

All this dicking around will not and has not fix anyone's issue.

It's a software bug.

Ugh.:'( Is it primarily Samsung, or other manufacturers as well? I haven't seen this commonly mentioned for Pixel phones, for example.

Turn on Dolby Atmos in drop down notifications panel swipe over and enable

Yet most people have no issue despite published facts. We try to resolve issues here by eliminating the obvious before we condemn the update.

What most people don't realize is Samsung turned it off by default so OP said after the pie update had issues , try to enable Dolby Atmos it makes a difference , just like everyone didn't know why AOD wasn't displaying Samsung put it as tap to touch by default instead of always on
