Why is my Evo speaking clicked links and page titles?

I must have clicked a setting somewhere, but I can't figure out which one it was. Whenever I click on a link, I think in any program, the text to speech fires up and reads me the link text, and then it reads the name of the web page I arrive at.

How do I turn that off?

Try going into settings > accessibility > and then see if talkback is turned on. I think if that's on it reads everything to you.

Sent from my EVO using Android Central Forums

I thought of that after I submitted my post. But no, Talkback is not turned on. I turned it on, and then turned it off again, but it didn't make any difference.

And it's not reading me everything I touch. It just seems to be links and page titles, though I just tried it again in Pulse, and if I'm on a web page, and I click on a paragraph, that paragraph becomes outlined and it starts reading it to me. It's really irritating when I'm just trying to scroll the page.

The reading the page title thing happens in Chrome, Dolphin and the Pulse browser, so I know it's a system setting somewhere.

I was in a meeting this morning and made the mistake of clicking on this link.

Maybe dig in settings for a development option or actually .... whats that feature for the hard of hearing ... TTY? Maybe you activated that i dunno. Dont have the phone just tossing out ideas. I have seen sprint ID packs cause phones to automatically speak inbound call phone numbers which freaked some out, but havent heard of it calling out every action.

Bumping this to see if anyone has any other ideas. It's totally driving me crazy.

Edit: Ok, I think I figured it out. The same problem was reported by a bunch of other people on other phones, and the suggested solution was to set Install Web Scripts in the Accessibility menu to Not Allowed.

Seems to have done the trick.
