Why is my Facebook account causing my phone to restart when I try to login?

When I press the Facebook icon, my phone restarts.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Does the Facebook start to open first, and then the phone restarts, or does it restart immediately upon tapping your Facebook icon?

Go to Settings>Apps, select Facebook, then Storage, then Clear Cache/Clear Data. Now see if you can open it.

My phone suddenly started rebooting itself every time I opened the Facebook app. Then I remembered that FB recently updated itself. I think there may be a problem with the update. I can't uninstall the FB app. I tried clearing the cache and data, but it didn't help. I don't want to do a factory reset yet. Not sure if that would help. I just tried uninstalling the updates and updating again thru the play store. It didn't help.
