Why is my Galaxy S6 Edge so slow and unresponsive?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge that I bought when Samsung updated the lineup. My previous Samsung phone is the Note4 and the reason I got rid of that was because it was just ridiculously slow and unresponsive.

There are many instances where my phone basically is useless. From the first thing, when I boot it up, it will basically be useless for at least five minutes. It seems it will crap out when it hits like a dozen notification at once. So I have to let the phone sort itself out from that. Great, then it wants to update apps, it will take forever. For example the Play store app the progress bars will says 'Downloading' and the screen will freeze, and then the next thing it will say 'Installing' then free again. I know this is just an app, but when it freezes, I can't use my phone, even if it's updating in the background. It's not just this. Another example is if I take a picture, sometimes the camera will crash. I just was watching TV and there was this commercial comparing the speed of the camera of the Galaxy S6 to that of the iPhone 6s. Yes, the camera on the Galaxy S6 is fast, no doubt, but it crashes half the time. That makes the speed kind of a moot point.

The really frustrating thing is my battery life is also non-existent. From typing this post, my phone running super hot, the battery life went from 65% to 40% in the span of 15 minutes. At least the charger is super fast, so I can survive.

I seem to have lag and crashes to the home screen just about all the time. Maybe, except for Chrome. I don't have any customizations on my phone, running everything stock Samsung. I always use two phones, so I keep an iOS device (currently an iPhone 6s) and an Android device, so I'm would like my Samsung not to struggle so much. I'm just wondering if my phone is broken somehow? I tried resetting everything and if I don't install any apps, it seems fine, but once I install the apps I need, the phone doesn't work well anymore. I've made sure I have the latest updates.

The thing is I called Samsung and I'm told nothing is wrong. I have the wrong apps installed, nothing they can do for me. So I'm at a loss here. And it seems I only have problems with my Samsung devices. I also own a Google Nexus 6P and a Huawei Mate 8, both which run spectacularly, have battery life for all day, no response issues, apps don't crash. All my issues are with Samsung devices, especially this Galaxy S6 Edge that I'm trying to use as my main Android phone, but it's not really working.

Any help or advice for me here? Thanks!

I would check to see which non-stock apps (and how many) you have loaded at start up (there are apps that can help identify them for you). Then I would deactivate or uninstall those start up apps you really don't need. Since a reset eliminated your issue, it really does sound as if it's an app problem, rather than a hardware issue.

Try doing a factory reset. It can fix the problems.

But, if you still have the warranty, use the warranty. It looks like you got a bad one.

I was having similar problems and took it to the walk-in center here in Atlanta thinking it was the battery. They tested and said: No, its the motherboard. Its currently winging its way to the Texas repair center for a new motherboard.

As a side note I pulled my old S3 out of the drawer, used a sim adapter, fired it up and am amazed at what a great phone it remains. Only on Android 4.4, its slower, but is still a great phone.

Thanks for the replies. After getting annoyed I tossed this in a drawer. Today I took it out again and it got me all frustrated all over again. I will take this to a store. I hope I still have warranty, should be easy to look up as I bought it from AT&T...

have you tried clearing the cache on the phone maybe worth a try :)

Hi, all the suggestions you received are good ones. You said you have a backup phone so try all listed above before giving up. I believe it's a bad app or something you're doing since you stated that it happened on your note 4 too. I had the note 4, and honestly it was a wonderful, fast handset. I currently have the S6 edge And an S7 edge. Both are working fabulously for me. My only gripe with the S6 edge is that battery life is Ok at best. Not because of the phone itself, but because samsung didn't put a big enough battery in it. Id definitely start by clearing out the phones cache. Simply go into settings - storage - internal storage - scroll down to CACHE DATA AND HIT IT. you will get a window that says clear cache data for all Apps. Hit delete. See if it helps. If not try to eliminate some apps that are continuing to run in the background. If this doesn't help, perform a factory reset. Its time consuming, but most likely will cure your issue. Remember, when you start to add your apps back, do about 10 at a time and start with the ones that are most important to you. After every 10,check out your phones performance. If all this fails, its time to get professional help for the phone that is. Lol. Good luck and keep us updated.
