Why is my Google Play Store not working?

I have a TMAX 9" HD tablet. I've had it for about 2 years. It has had to be reset about 5 times in total. I have never had a problem with the Google Play Store or if I have I have been able to shut it down and power it back up and the problem's gone. I can get to the app I want to install, but when I go to install it it starts to download then says "Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped" . Because of this I've restarted my tablet twice today and still it happens. The first time I was able to download two apps before it stopped working and the second time it didn't work altogether. I have tried downloading from the desktop with my account and it says it will install but it doesn't. About a month ago my SD card slot stopped working and now this so I wonder if my tablet is going to stop working, but I hope not. But that might be the case.

Welcome to Android Central! Does this happen on both wi-fi and mobile data?

Go to Settings>Apps>All, select Google Play Store, and Clear Cache/Clear Data, then Force Stop. Do the same for Download Manager. Now try again.

If that doesn't work, then go to Settings>Accounts, remove your Google account completely, then add it back.
