Why is my home screen more difficult to get to?

When I turn on my phone I get the time screen and in order to get to my home screen I have to sweep to the right and it opens my speed dial, recents, contacts screen. Before the latest update I only had to unlock and slide and went straight to the home srceen with all my apps. Is there anyway to reset this? Not happy with latest update.

Swipe up from the lock icon at the bottom center and that will bring you to your home screen. The phone is like how you could open the camera by swiping from right-to-left in previous versions - now you have an additional left-to-right swipe action that opens the phone. Sometimes if you swipe up from the lower left corner you'll also open the phone dialer
