Why does my phone screen turn off while receiving a call, and does not on untill after the call

Re: Why does my phone screen turn off while receiving a call, and does not on untill after the call

Welcome to Android Central! If this is happening even if the phone isn't against your ear, then something could be blocking the proximity sensor, like a poorly fitted screen protector or case.

My phone does that as well! I have the LG V40 thinq.

I used to have the Galaxy S6, and it would stay on if on speaker phone and looking at phone, and if at ear screen would go black, but come back on once I removed from ear.

If you tap the screen or hit the power button does screen come on ?

And you don't have a screen protector or case on? Does this happen in Safe Mode as well? https://www.t-mobile.com/support/devices/android/lg-v40-thinq/safe-mode-lg-v40-thinq

Yes it does. With my galaxy I was used to looking at screen and it would come back on....

Re: Why does my phone screen turn off while receiving a call, and does not on untill after the call

I do have a case on, always have a case. But no extra screen protector, just what was already on there when purchased.

I will check out the link you posted, thanks!

I do not know what will happen on Sunday when we talk to our son (away at college) when I have my phone on speaker phone when he calls, since I had a software update on May 14.

Have you tried safe mode?

Re: Why does my phone screen turn off while receiving a call, and does not on untill after the call

I do have a case on, always have a case.

If the case doesn't fit well and is blocking the proximity sensor, that could cause this problem. Try taking the case off and see if the problem persists.

Also, make sure the glass is clean over the proximity sensor, since any crud on the glass overlying the sensor might trigger it. The sensor is right next to the front-facing camera, so just make sure that whole area is clean.

No not yet, but I will, thanks.
Case fits very well. But will try taking it off as well. Glass completely clean, including the sensor.
Thanks, I will give it all a try tomorrow.

Makes no difference at all. I guess it is just the way the phone works. It is not a major problem.

Did you try safe mode?

Re: Why does my phone screen turn off while receiving a call, and does not on untill after the call

If the problem persists in Safe Mode, and there's no case or screen protector (or dust/grime) blocking the proximity sensor, then the sensor itself might be faulty.

Re: Why does my phone screen turn off while receiving a call, and does not on untill after the call

My question is, not being knowledgeable about LG phones, is there a "Keep Screen on when looking at screen" feature like many Samsung phones have, and if it does, is that feature turned off, somehow? I know this has been a feature since at least the S5 series, and the S6 would have had that, it seems.

@loekie32, I hope the question I asked is relevant to your phone.

No, not yet. I never know when our son calls, different times every Sunday. Will put in safe mode now and see what happens.....

It is relevant to my phone. The Samsung Galaxy I had, would go dark when phone at ear, but as soon as you looked at it, it would come back on. I currently have the LH V40 thinq and it doesn' come back on. I have it on speaker, so hubby can hear and talk as well, and it doesn' stay on, screen goes dark.

Well..., when in safe mode I couldn't receive a call I was waiting for.... So I have turned safe mode off. I'll manage with the dark screen, not a huge problem. Several icons went gray, including the 'phone' icon.

And, no there isn't a "keep screen on when looking at screen" feature. At least I have not been able to find it...
