Why is my Messages App opening Instagram links in the browser window?

Why is "Messages" App opening Instagram links in "browser" window

Pre-Marshmallow update any time I received a text message with an Instagram link, I could click the link and it would open in the IG app. Post-Marshmallow now when I click an IG link it opens in a "browser" that appears to be built into the Messages app, it doesn't even appear to open Chrome to follow the link. It opens a popup that if I swipe off the screen closes the entire Messages app. I've made IG app the default for links and it still continues to open in the Messages app. IG is the only one that I'm having issues with. YouTube links open with the YT app...etc. Is anyone else having this problem? Has anyone figured out a solution? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone, and which messaging app--the stock Messaging (for SMS/MMS) or the Facebook Messenger app?

Go to Settings>Apps​, select the messaging app, and Clear Defaults. Now see if the problem persists.
