Why is my messaging crashing on my lg g6?

I've had my LG G 6 for 5 days and its messaging keeps crashing.

I don't know why it's doing it, but you could try clearing cache and data for the app.

Welcome to the forums! Have you checked to see if the SMS crashing occurs with other SMS apps as well, such as Textra?

I would definitely try textra. Maybe you received a message the standard messaging app doesn't like. If so you can delete the offending message (maybe clear them all) and switch back to the default app if you like (I prefer Textra, myself). My kids' old phone (not a smartphone) used to reboot half the time they received a group MMS!
