Why is my Nexus 5 data usage spiking?

Nexus 5 - Wierd cellular data usage

Hello everyone,
Today i experienced very weird thing regarding my Nexus 5. I have 1gb included in my monthly mobile package, today i got warning SMS which tells me that i used 50% of my data. I was curious about that, because i am pretty sure i didnt download anything such big.
I looked up in to cellular data settings and you can see what i found there on following screenshots.



So as you can see from pictures two apps used allmost all internet. While facebook is ok to understand. Facebook messanger used almost 300mb with that non understandable spike today. Data counter widget shows that i received 550mb today?!!?!!
Does someone have any idea what could happen?
Btw in this month i have in total 10 text messages written or received on FB messanger.

Facebook Messenger relies on your data network to fetch for updates. If you have photos within those messages that could also attribute to the high data usage. Further, depending on how long many messages you have in each conversation thread could affect the amount of data needed to retrieve that information.

My recommendation is to disable data whenever possible or not use those apps as frequently. Try to connect to WiFi as much as possible whenever using those two apps.

Also, it may be a good idea to set your data usage warning lower, and your data usage limit a little above that, so that such data spikes cannot occur again.
