Why is my Note 5 phone's transmitting voice is distorted?

Every time my wife and I call another person from our respective Note 5 set, the person at the receiving end says that our words are garbled or broken up. We have these phones for the past 3/4 years. It never happened before. Both sets have started doing this now. The conversation from the other side is fine-- clear and precise.
