Why is my phone not charging/getting hot at night?

So I have been having a weird problem on and off for about a year now.

I have a Droid Turbo (XT1254), and I charge the phone at night (about 6-7 hours). When I wake up, my phone will be HOT. I am talking 115 - 120 degrees. My cable is still in the phone, and I run the app "Sleep Cycle" while I sleep. HOWEVER, my phone still gets hot even when the app isn't running. I am not sure if it is my micro-USB port, my AC adapter, or my cable (Or all 3!). I don't like turbo charging the phone because isn't it not good to have the phone plugged in for 8 hours when it only needs two at night? I use an LG AC adapter that I had laying around.
I just really do not want to damage my phone. I don't know how to post a picture, but according to my battery data, my phone will charge to around 60-80 percent then start discharging even though the phone is still plugged into the port. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Welcome to Android Central! Can you try different USB cable and charging plug?
