Why is my phone showing gmail messages from last year?

I have recently activated a new Huawei Sensa LTE phone with 6.0 Marshmallow and created an IMAP account to receive messages from my gmail account on my phone.

Everything is well in that it is syncing well and when I delete emails on my phone, they are also deleted from the account when I check via pc.

The only aggravation is that messages that I deleted over a year ago are showing up on my phone as new messages and I am having to re-delete them all. These seem to be messages that I did not read or mark as read before I deleted them straight from my Inbox.

I am beginning to wonder if I must re-delete every message I have ever received on that account.

Any advice on how to stop this? Or do I really have to delete them 75 messages at a time until they are just all gone?

Thanks in advance~.

Most likely you are seeing the old messages because your new device has not seen these old messages and thus downloads them as new.

When the messages are getting "deleted", you should check to see that they are really getting deleted (not marked as hidden) and/or placed in the "trash" folder.
