Why is My Samsung S7 locking me out each time I Try to unlock It

[Android Central Question]

I bought my Edge from a friend and defined my fingerprint and a pattern immediately. I have been using the phone for 2 weeks but starting today, it has started locking me out for 60 minutes each time I try to unlock it with my fingerprint. It does not give me the option to use my patter. If I press the power button, sometimes I'm given the option to restart, etc but other times I get no response at all except try again in 60 minutes. Even when it does restart, when I try to get into the "screen lock type" function to eliminate screen locking, I get the "try again in XX minutes". Thanks for your help.

Welcome to Android Central! Did you do a factory reset as soon as you got the phone? If not, maybe there was some leftover data from the previous user.
