Why is my system data taking up 20 GB????

I realised my storage gets filled up quickly and soon realised it's because only 2gb is always available about 9gb is used up on apps and documents and the other 20gb I have no idea what is used up on. I wish I could put a screenshot here but I dont know how to so would love the help!!

Welcome to Android Central! It would also help to know which device you have.

Certain messaging apps like Telegram and kik can build up enormous data caches, so check those kinds of apps in Settings>Apps​.
