Android Central Question

My Galaxy 8 understood everything I said perfectly. My voice hasn't changed & I do not have an accent. IMy new phone puts in random words that don't even make sense in the sentence. Eg I say "survey" it prints "serviette". I used to say "fullstop" & it put in a proper fullstop. Now it prints the whole word.

Check the language that it set as the default. It sounds like it may be set to "English (UK)" and you want "English (United States)".

The "normal" American accent is a sort of midwestern accent (but without any Iowan accent) - kind of like Chicago. ('m not saying that from a biased viewpoint - I was born and raised in New York City, and my accent is so noticeable that I've been asked if I'm from NY when I've been overseas in non-English-speaking countries. Hearing an accent in a foreign language means it's pretty strong. [Hearing a recording of myself, I have an accent to my own ears.])

But yes, to a speech-to-text program that hasn't been trained, we all have accents. (Dragon Naturally Speaking takes a while to train, but then it's almost like a little administrative assistant - a doctor of mine used it to take notes, and he had it trained so well that it got the spellings of medical terminology right. But they don't make DNS for cellphones.)

Me too! My 9 plus and this one was defaulted on Samsung and it's horrible. And then my girlfriend asked why hers was so bad and I thought I switched it to Google for her and she acted like it was still bad. I said make sure it's on Google and she claims it was and she put it on Samsung and it was better now. She may be confused as to what it's on.

I can tell you mine hates my accent (Southern-ish lol). I went from the S8+ to S10+....still hates my accent. It absolutely sends me into a small fit though when I say because and it puts bcuz.
