Why is my Verizon Note 4 so slow with text messaging?

Verizon note 4 slow text messaging

I recently traded in my HTC one m8 for a Note 4 because I was having problems with reception and receiving text messages. The problem has now started to creep into my Note 4. When messages are sent to me it is stuck on downloading image though I have it set up to automatically retrieve mms. When I try send a message back out it stays on sending for about 5 to 7 minutes before it sends. I have restarted the phone when I have this problem but it doesn't seem to help. Usually about an hour or so of my phone not sending or receiving the messages everything goes back to normal and works right away. I included a picture of the messaging app trying to send and receive and screen shot of my signal. On the screen shot where I am trying to send the text it was 7 minutes before the message sent. Verizon doesn't have amazing signal in this area but its better than anyone else. The reason for no cell signal is I work in the basement of a hospital and I have my phone on airplane mode the whole time there.

Is that Google messenger? If so, the problem is not with the phones or your carrier.

Something is up with Google Messenger itself. I had the same problem, it went away as soon as I tried a different app.

Download textra or chomp and try them instead.

I suggest textra, it's pretty close to Google Messenger, but everybody has their favorite.

I use Google messenger and don't have any of these issues... but I did have the same issue with Handsent

That is Google Messenger. I tried making the default Samsung messaging app the default after the issues and I was able to download one of the images but not the other. Thanks for the suggestion, I think I will try some of the other apps you mentioned, I don't like the look of the default Samsung messaging app. Going to give textra a try for a couple of days and see if I still have problems.

Give it a few days. I didn't have any problems with it for the first couple of weeks.

Also, I would have just chalked it up to "just my phone" but I'm seeing threads like this about Google messenger about once a day since I started having the problem. All describe the same symptoms, regardless of phone or carrier. So I am thinking it's an issue with the app itself.

It is too bad that Google Messenger is having issues for some people I like the layout of it and the option to make everyone's reply a different color.

If you're on verizon why don't you use verizon messenger app? I love it... you can put it on your tablet and pick right up seamlessly with your texts or on your pc....sending and receiving....

I tried that one for awhile and I make a lot of mistakes while typing and have to go back. I didn't like that they added the pictures for certain words and you have to delete the whole word now instead of being able to fix a letter.

Google Messenger has been flawless for me. Fast, no lag at all while scrolling my conversation list or in messages and mms works perfectly everytime. Never had to fiddle with apn settings at all. I switched from Evolve SMS due to lag issues with it.

This isn't regarding Hangouts. Google has a separate messaging app, that IMHO is better than hangouts, other than this annoying problem

By the way, I checked out Textra, and the reviews scared me off. People complaining about the app hosing their data connection all together. No thanks... I'm not looking to take a drug that gives me side effects

Can you post a link to the source for that? I have been using textra for a few weeks now, I have not had any issues with my data connection.

I don't think it's the app. I have the same issue with my Note 4 on VZW. I have tried Hangouts (SMS), Handcent, Samsung Messaging app, and now the VZW Messaging+ app --- all the same results. With the VZW app I am also using their web interface and I see messages come in and it takes minutes for the messages to show up on my phone. Frustrating!
