Why is null showing up on hotspot

I connected to my husband hotspot and when he looked my device showed up as null. Why and what's null?

Welcome to Android Central! "Null" means "nothing" or "blank." Which phone do you have? Go to Settings>About Phone>Device Name. Is it blank? Try customizing the name (like "Sally's Phone") and see if it now shows up that way.
